Emily and Willie's wedding day is one of my new favorites (although I say that every week because all of my couples are just so UH-mazing!!), not only because this couple is so in love (see photos of their first look where Willie wipes away some of Emily's tears!), but their wedding took place at one of my favorite venues in downtown Detroit; the Masonic Temple! . . .Read More
Before Lauren and Marcus' engagement session at Belle Isle in Detroit, I sent them my Engagement Session Style Guide which includes everything from choosing the right location for your portraits to coordinating outfits to the little details you don't want to forget about. I think they totally ROCKED their engagement photos and can I gush one last time about their unbelievable outfits for a minute - gorgeous taste and Lauren has such an eye for style! I believe that because they were given the tools to prepare, that allowed both Lauren and Marcus to relax, be themselves, and to most importantly have fun at their engagement session! . . .Read More
One of my biggest joys as a wedding photographer is getting to continue photographing couples after their wedding day and as they grow in their marriage and start families! The fall is a special time of year for me in so many ways not only because it is my favorite season, but there are lots of colorful outdoor weddings, I'm meeting with newly engaged couples getting married the following year, and I also sometimes have the privilege of photographing my past clients again!! . . .Read More
Erin and Scott prepared for their wedding day at the beautiful and historic Detroit Athletic Club surrounded by their closest friends and loved ones! Erin was so at ease as she stepped into her Robert Bullock wedding gown which fit her perfectly! Scott looked very dapper and charming as he fixed his plum colored tie against his grey suit. Erin and Scott are so laid-back and fun that I felt so lucky to be welcomed in to capture their wedding day! . . .Read More
When Tina told me that she loves the fall and pumpkin everything, I knew that we would be instant friends! Coincidence or not, the fall season also became the backdrop to Zach's proposal last September! While walking along the leaf covered trails of the cider mill with donuts in one hand and hot cider in the other, Zach stopped by the water and got down on one knee. Much to Tina's shock and aw, Zach asked her to marry him and she only had one answer for the man of her dreams; a resounding yes!Read More
There I sat with the smell of coffee and the hum of conversation in the air and I thought to myself, "Wow, I really liked them!" I remember listening to Rachel tell the story of how her and Steve met in high school and eventually became engaged. She had the biggest smile on her face and at one point Steve grabbed her hand during the re-telling of the proposal.Read More
There is something energetic about living downtown in a big city. There is a pace that makes you want to wake up in the morning and just get moving towards your dreams and goals. Living in downtown Detroit has proven to be a fun and exciting time for Jenny and Pat. They really enjoy working and exploring the motor city together.Read More
As I walked into the bridal suite at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center the stormy clouds that had been dominating the morning sky had finally started to dissipate. Lindsay breathed a sigh of relief at the news of a rain-free wedding day and she finished up with her hair and make-up styling. The Detroit skyline and river were the backdrop on this dreamy day, with elements of the city finding it's way onto the invitations and reception decor.Read More
While getting to know Kara + Mark in the days leading up to their wedding, I discovered that Kara is a girl after my own heart as she has read all seven Harry Potter books on multiple occasions! I'm even a step above her on the HP nerd scale as I have all seven on audiobook and listen to them on repeat while cleaning or when driving home from a destination wedding. (Weasley is our King!) So although they wouldn't be having a HP themed wedding, they did plan on having a beautiful celebration where friends and family could enjoy themselves and have fun. I was so excited and honored to be chosen as their wedding photographer.Read More
This was my first visit to this historic Belle Isle in Detroit, MI and as we all walked around the island I couldn't help but smile when Dylan would say something goofy to Lynette and then she would pull him in close to her. So cute. And they are so in love.
A few moments in front of the James Scott Memorial Fountain proved to be an adventure as the couple climbed up into the fountain to get a better view of the Detroit skyline (the park staff turn off the water at the beginning of fall). Lynette and I shared a total girl/chick flick moment as she said to Dylan, "I like your hair pushed back like that," and Dylan stared blankly at her. We all burst out laughing because apparently "Mean Girls" wasn't a movie on his must-watch list. We strolled over to the Belle Isle Casino and that's when Lynette brought out some balloons - BALLOONS - to incorporate as a prop in their shoot. I love when couples bring along pieces that represent their personality, relationship, or daily life because it gives us something fun to work with and adds depth to their story. :)
After a quick outfit change, Lynette adorned green and white and Dylan maze and blue at the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory to show their individual team spirits. I don't think the rivalry between Michigan State University (Lynette) and University of Michigan (Dylan) will end anytime soon as captured in their playful punching match, but these two still come together on most everything else.
A wonderful blue sky, painted with whispy white clouds, was the backdrop as the Mr. and Mrs.-to-be tossed the football around in front of the Nancy Brown Peace Carillon Tower.
(I first met Lynette and Dylan while freelancing my engagement photography skills for Fairytale Productions and I enjoyed capturing their love for each other on the beautiful Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan! All photos were captured by Courtney Carolyn, but are Copyright to the amazing Fairytale Productions. To read more about why I collaborate and work with other photographers, check out this post.)
I want to wish Lynette and Dylan so much love and happiness at their engagement and I can not wait until your wedding next May!!
