Casual Detroit Wedding at Crystal Gardens: Jennifer + Ryan

Jennifer and her daughter strolled through the mall one afternoon window shopping. They decided on a whim to go into a jeweler's store and look at the engagement rings. Jennifer looked through all the different diamond ring cuts - pear, round, princess, and the like - and narrowed the store down to five rings that she liked most. Later, Ryan, would secretly go back to the store and look at those rings and pick one which to propose to Jennifer with - and he just so happened to pick the very one that was Jennifer's favorite out of the five!

On an evening out for dinner with friends and family in the fabulous Las Vegas, Ryan proposed to Jennifer. She said "Yes!," and a crowd of clapping strangers and friends erupted in the middle of their dinner restaurant. Jennifer prepared for her wedding day at her mother's home with the help of her daughter, mom, and bridesmaids. Ryan and Jennifer were so excited to see each other on their wedding day and wanted to ensure plenty of time for relaxed and fun photos. Both of these goals were accomplished with a first look.

Since Jennifer and Ryan's wedding was happening pretty close to downtown Detroit, we traveled to the beautiful and historic Guardian Building for the wedding party and couple portraits. As the day continued, the bride and groom were tucked away from arriving ceremony guests at Crystal Gardens in Southgate, MI. Jennifer walked arm in arm with her mother and step-father down the aisle as they all struggled to hold back tears. This day had finally come.

The celebration kicked off as Jennifer and Ryan each said, "I do.," kissed, and their daughter played sweet notes from her cello as they were announced as the new Mr. and Mrs. Many toasts, laughter, and tears were to be shared among all who attended the reception and the night ended with some dancing until they kicked their shoes off.

Jennifer + Ryan, I want to say how very thankful and honored I am to have been chosen to document your wedding day. It was an amazing and beautiful day and I wish you nothing but happiness and good adventures together!

Love Always,

Courtney Carolyn

Relaxed Grand Valley Wedding Grand Rapids, MI: Carolann + Stu

As the sun radiated down on the bright summer day, Carolann said, "I do" to Stu as an acoustic guitar played softly in the background and the beautiful handmade pinwheels fluttered and spun in the cool breeze on the campus of Grand Valley State University at the Alumni House. This couple was very DIY, paying close attention to the small details with hundreds of pinwheels and personal photos of their relationship and their whole wedding celebration oozed with personality including a macaroni and cheese station with 5 different varieties at the reception!

I captured the beginning of the day with the bride and her bridesmaids getting ready, toasting the day with champagne, and also helping each other with final make-up application. The bride and her bridesmaids also had a room with a view facing out over the ceremony location, and they couldn't help but sneak a few peeks at guests as they arrived. I then headed to capture the groom and his groomsmen preparing for the walk down the aisle. The gentlemen were toasting with swigs right from the Jack Daniel's bottle and were searching YouTube on how best to tie their very formal ties.

Beneath the bright cloudless sky, the emotional vows took place as the guests and family beamed with happiness for this special couple. Carolann and Stu wanted their portraits as well as the reception to feel very relaxed like, "we're just hanging out." The end of the night brought with it the cupcake cutting and a bit of the cupcake ended up smashed in the bride's shocked and surprised face.

Here's to you Carolann and Stu, and thank you again for allowing me to be apart of your very special day!

Love Always,

Courtney Carolyn
