I have been helping my photography clients plan for their big day for the last 3 years, and when I got engaged in June 2017 my goal was to have a stress-free planning experience! For the most part, I think our planning has been amazing and so so exciting. . . in this Blog Series, get a behind the scenes look at our wedding planning journey and our plans!

- So. . . Who is Our Photographer? -
This announcement is so big I thought about sending all my blog readers a chilled bottle of champagne, just so they could pop their corks with me as I finally reveal who our wedding photographer is going to be!!!
Some of you photographers out there might already know just by looking at this image, but I hope you keep reading anyway! Since the number one question Scott and I have received throughout our wedding planning is, “Who is going to be your wedding photographer?” I figured I should give everyone some insight into our decision! ⠀

When Scott and I first started talking wedding plans, photography was our top priority and when Scott asked me who I'd want to photograph our wedding day, I was so nervous to say her name out loud because I know that this photographer is SO amazing and that she gets hundreds of inquiries every year. . . Yet, before I could answer, Scott said, "You want Katelyn James, don't you?" My mouth kind of popped open half in shock that he knew her name (when talking about her in the past I would frame the convo to Scott with "you know that red-head photographer who works with her husband, Michael"), and half in surprised relief that Scott knows me better than I give him credit for!⠀

I emailed Katelyn and was over the moon when everything fell into place with her schedule and our wedding plans! This by far has been the most exciting part of our wedding planning journey for me, and when we found out that she would be speaking at Showit's United Conference while we were attending it (more soon on our experience at United!), we couldn’t think of a better time or place for our engagement photos!
It is pretty surreal to think that I am a "KJbride" and that we had the opportunity to take OUR ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS in the desert!!! Ah!!! I was so excited I could hardly sit still.

Give me silliness and laughter! Give me real moments over ones staged to perfection! I wanted to highlight this photo for a second and it's technically an outtake from our engagement session, but it is one of my absolute favorites!

I can't help but smile when I look at Scott and I in this moment. The desert setting was so gorgeous and we were walking like models as we took in the whole experience of having OUR engagement photos taken. I, however, lost my balance at one point and we both let out the most genuine laughs and my face twisted into this priceless expression!⠀

An Instagram-worthy romantic shot turned into something so much more . . . real life. In real life, sometimes the outtakes are more beautiful. In real life it's all messy; the hair, the heart, and the house.
When I was trying to decide which images to share from our session, I could have easily chosen the image where we look polished and pretty. Instead, I chose this moment, and as a result I feel like you can see our joy, our silliness, and our love. We aren’t perfect, in fact a lot of the time I feel like I’m stumbling and Scott is there to catch me.⠀

I am SO excited to share these images with all of you and I know many of you are just as excited as we are to see these!!! Katelyn captured so many timeless and romantic photographs of us, but I’m also sharing the honest ones, the real-us ones!
